Eine aristotelische Klassifikation arbeitet nach einer Reihe von binären Merkmalen, die das zu klassifizierende Objekt entweder aufweist oder nicht aufweist. Auf jeder Klassifizierungsebene werden genügend binäre Merkmale hinzugefügt, um jedes Mitglied einer bestimmten Population in eine und nur eine Klasse einzuteilen.
