If an action is a mere consequence of rigid laws, it cannot be an act of free will and hence the agent is not responsible for it. If, on the other hand, the action cannot be derived from causes, it is inexplicable and random, and thus cannot be attributed to the agent, and hence again the agent cannot be responsible for it.

Wenn eine Handlung nur eine Folge starrer Gesetze ist, kann sie kein Akt des freien Willens sein, und daher ist der Handelnde nicht dafür verantwortlich. Wenn hingegen die Handlung nicht aus Ursachen abgeleitet werden kann, ist sie unerklärlich und beliebig und kann daher nicht dem Handelnden zugeschrieben werden, also kann der Handelnde ebenfalls nicht dafür verantwortlich sein.
